Why is it important to you to prioritize working with—and supporting—sustainable and ethical brands?

"I’ve always loved fashion, jewelry, and high-quality things. When I studied in Paris, we learned a lot about how fashion is made — from materials and production practices to the waste problem and overconsumption. The more I learned, the more I started seeking out brands that work mindfully, brands that create beautiful, timeless pieces I can wear for years, and maybe even pass down to my children one day. I go down rabbit holes on Instagram to discover sustainable and ethical brands that align with my values and my aesthetic at the same time. And I’ve made it my mission to share those finds with my readers through my Substack newsletter and on social media!"

How did you discover Futura and its mission to encourage the jewelry industry to use ethical mercury-free mined gold for all jewelry manufacturing?

"I discovered Futura while organizing a holiday editorial last year focused on ethical jewelry. We styled still lifes on those beautiful cotton velvet fabrics. During my research (I run a production company with my husband, photographer Andrew Day), I came across Futura through the platform Good on You. I was already familiar with sustainability in fashion, but I hadn’t yet learned about the mercury issues in the jewelry world. Through conversations with Ashley, I gained a lot of insights into the changes Futura is pioneering. It’s always super inspiring to me to find brands that are genuinely working to create positive change!"

What suggestions do you have for Futura to increase consumer awareness of the worldwide threat of mercury emissions to all of us?

"I think making the issue feel real is key. A lot of people have no idea how mercury is connected to gold and it can feel abstract without visuals or storytelling. I know a jewelry founder who visits the mines she sources from and shares video content from the ground which brings a lot of clarity and emotion to her brand’s message. For Futura, behind-the-scenes content, reels, or even short interviews with miners  or activists could be interesting. I also see that educational gallery posts are getting pushed on Instagram right now, so doing some of those could be great as well!"

How does Futura fit into your lifestyle, and what are some of your favorite pieces?

"Futura fits perfectly into my lifestyle because the pieces are timeless and thoughtfully made. When I shop, I always ask myself if this is a piece that I’ll love 10 years from now. My style is minimal, chic, and a little ethereal. Therefore, I particularly love your stackable rings, the Emily one is my favourite. But I also adore the Mare Twisted one, the simple Luna one as well as the Ethereal Laurel wedding ring."
