WHY FUTURA CONNECTED WITH FAIRMINED
When FUTURA founder, Bob Donofrio discovered that gold mining in the jewelry industry was a leading cause of mercury emissions, he knew he had to educate himself on the issues and find better solutions to this global issue. That's when he decided to become a partner of the United Nations who at the time had just initiated the Minamata Convention - which is committed to eliminating global mercury emissions. 39% of global mercury emissions come from the small-scale gold mining sector and this gold is mostly used in the jewelry industry.Shortly after, Bob became familiar with the Fairmined Initiative. He found that the high standards of Fairmined including: commitment to worker's rights, safe work environment, no use of child-labor, and of course their commitment to mercury-free gold mining we're in alignment with his vision for a better jewelry industry for our health and the health of our planet.In 2017 he became a Fairmined licensee and formed FUTURA with a mission to make consumers as well as the industry more aware of this clean, mercury-free gold jewelry option. FUTURA'S mission is to empower you to be able to make a conscious decision when purchasing gold jewelry, which is so personal and meaningful.
